Chalco Henan Branch sees partial collapse of tailings pond, no causalities
ZHENGZHOU, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chalco Henan Branch saw a partial collapse of tailings pond on Tuesday afternoon due to continuous rainfall, according to local authorities on Wednesday.
At present, the collapse has been under control and local authorities have not received any report of casualties.
The collapse happened at Gaoshan Town in Xingyang City in Central China's Henan province, with the red mud flowing out. The red mud is the by-product in the process of alumina production.
By 11 a.m. Wednesday, no toxic substance flowed into theYellow Riverand the water quality was still normal, according to local environmental protection departments.
