N. China Hebei to strengthen air pollution control in 2014
BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) – North China'sHebeiprovince recently finished compiling the air pollution prevention plan for 2014 to promote pollution control and emission reduction this year.
The plan put forward seven tasks, such as reducing and controlling pollution emission, forcing outdated capacity to exit the market, strictly controlling coal consumption and increasing the use of clean energy, and optimization in layout of key projects.
The province said that it will eliminate more than 600 coal-fired boilers by the end of 2014. In order to reduce the pollution emission of mobile pollution sources, it will increase efforts to promote the use of new energy vehicles. This year, it will put 1,395 units of new energy buses into service.
Meanwhile, the province will forbid the approval of new projects in the severely excessive industries, such as steel, cement, and flat glass. It will reduce 15 million tonnes of crude steel capacity, 10 million tonnes of cement capacity and 18 million weight carton of glass capacity this year.
In addition, the province's coal consumption in 2014 will be cut by 15 million tonnes, compared to that in 2012, according to the plan. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, firstname.lastname@example.org)
